Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream

Even though we're now experiencing humid weather, my skin has been really dry lately. So I was thrilled when a few weeks ago, I received a generous free, sample of Neutrogena's Hydro Boost Gel Cream. Based on its claims, it seemed like just what my skin needed.

According to Neutrogena, it, "Instantly quenches dry skin and keeps it looking smooth, supple and hydrated all day." It does this by being, "Formulated with hydrating hyaluronic acid," which "acts as a sponge for dry skin cells, moisturizing with up to 1,000 times its weight in water, resulting in more supple and smooth skin."

So based on all of that, you'd think that my dry patches would quickly, even "instantly," vanish, especially since I was generally using this gel-like cream twice a day. But nope.

Applying this product to the non-dry spots of my face did result in those areas looking bright, healthy and hydrated. But unfortunately, it did nothing for the dry patches. They were still dry, flakey and, even after three weeks of use, still there. So sadly, despite the claims and the name, this cream didn't provide me with any noticeable boost of hydration.

Another reason I disliked this item? The packaging. While my samples were in a squeeze tube, which is perfectly fine, the main way this product is sold is in an open mouth jar. That's a container style I hate because it allows oxygen, bacteria and dirty, oily fingers easy access to the product.

While this product might not deliver on its moisture promises, I do agree that it has a "light-weight formula" that "absorbs quickly." This cream did feel great on my face, even if it didn't improve its appearance. It also never left my skin shiny or greasy feeling or looking.

Would I buy this product: No.

Should you buy this product: No, this product just doesn't deliver. It's definitely not worth its $20 price tag.
