Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

Writing this review makes me sad because I really, really, really wanted this exfoliate to be the wonder product that could get into my pores and cleaned them out.

But it’s not. After using this product almost daily (yes, I missed two days) for two weeks, my pores didn’t look any cleaner and actually, the overall condition of my skin declined, with several pimples popping up across my face.

To be fair, it has been really hot and humid out and I think that’s contributing more to the pimples than this product, which I think is just plain ineffective for my skin.

And looking at Dermalogica’s claims for this product, I think I was expecting too much out of it. According to Dermalogica it, “… microfoliates dulling debris and instantly leaves skin noticeably smoother and brighter.” There’s nothing about cleaning out pores or even cleaning at all. Instead it says, “microfolliates dulling debris,” which I guess this item does do because yes, my skin does look brighter after I use it, and that could be the result of this scrub removing some dirt and dead skin.

Made with rice-based enzyme powder, this exfoliate is intended for daily use and it’s certainly gentle enough for that. In fact, this is the gentlest exfoliate I’ve ever felt (you can’t call it a scrub) and that, I think, is part of the problem for me; it doesn’t have the grit needed to clean my face.

Because of how you apply this product, you pour it, a powder, in to your wet hands that you then rub together to create a paste, you can make it a bit grittier though apparently not gritty enough for me.

However, perhaps it’s for the best that this scrub doesn’t work since it costs $72 for one 75g bottle.

Would I buy this: Nope. At $72 a bottle a product really needs to work to get me to buy it.

Should you buy it: OK, apparently I’m in the minority when it comes to being disappointed by this item. The people on Dermalogica’s website love it (no surprise there) and it’s also a hit on the more impartial MakeupAlley.com.  So I guess it works for some people, just not me.

Given my experiences with this product I think that you should pass on it if you have oily/pimple-prone skin. But if you have normal to slightly dry skin, it might be worth checking out.

*** I received this item as part of a promotional Luxe Box given out by Loose Button and Dermalogica.***
